Election Day

Election day

Heat, beers and a woman to run the country. In the bars of Capitol Hill, the artsy heart of the very progressive Seattle, the evening of the November 8th election will be festive. The Comet Tavern is the physical representation of this festive night. "Hillary Potus" is everywhere, proudly displayed on the walls. Already 5.30 PM and the pub is filled with city dwellers of all ages, all professions, all coming to celebrate an inevitable victory. The Democratic candidate will be President of the United States of America. It's guaranteed ! Taking selfies, joking with our compatriots, or rolling a joint on the corner of a table. In front of CNN, projected throughout the room, the kegs of beer empty.

The anchormen of the TV news channel comment on a colorful map of red, pink, dark and light blue. Oregon for Hillary, Texas for Donald ... the scenario leading to the White House is proceeding as planned. Eight o'clock comes and passes, and with its passing comes the turn of the first "swing states": Ohio falls into the hands of Trump. The Hillaryites grimace. The cheers come back as soon as another state turns to dark blue. Then Trump wins Florida. Cold shower. In front of the dejected faces, any neophyte understands that the election won in advance is lost. The required threshold of the famous 270 electors has not yet passed, but the "Comet Tavern" is already empty. Some couples are still there, and are comforted. The party is ruined.
